Who We Are

JourneyPure us a leading provider of innovative addiction treatment services with an emphasis on treating co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

Through a combination of inpatient facilities, outpatient centers and proprietary coaching services and technologies, JourneyPure delivers a full continuum of integrated, high-quality services to assist each patient in getting and staying healthy.

We aim to help patients and their families get the drug and alcohol addiction treatment they need and deserve.  We do so by providing evidence-based treatments along with dual diagnosis to address co-occurring mental health issues and root out the underlying triggers causing the patient to abuse substances.

Our care goes beyond addiction cessation to offer practical skills required to re-enter everyday life successfully, imparting the values of good nutrition, exercise, social connectivity and spiritual grounding to set the stage for lifelong recovery.

We create safe, comfortable environments for men and women suffering from addiction with co-occurring mental health disorders to unearth the root causes of their illnesses. Our expert clinical staff provides patients with healthy coping skills focused on the three pillars of health: sleep, nutrition and exercise.

“JourneyPure’s services are needed now more than ever as opioid abuse has reached epidemic proportions,” said Dr. Sam MacMaster, co-founder, executive vice president, and chief clinical officer at JourneyPure. “Our team of experienced clinicians and addiction specialists has developed truly innovative programs to identify the underlying issues driving addiction and support lasting recovery.”

Specializing in treating individuals suffering from co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorder, we recognize that many if not most people can be treated effectively and efficiently on a purely outpatient basis—provided that the outpatient care is superior.

Our outpatient centers reinforce our commitment to the long-term recovery of our patients by providing a full continuum of services to support each patient’s individual needs.

Over the past year, JourneyPure has been rapidly expanding its footprint in regional markets and currently serve patients from across the nation through it inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics (such as JourneyPure Louisville), and sober living homes in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Florida. The six residential facilities include JourneyPure At The River and JourneyPure Voyage in Murfreesboro; JourneyPure Knoxville; JourneyPure Bowling Green; JourneyPure Emerald Coast in Panama City Beach, Florida; JourneyPure 12 Keys Rehab in Jensen Beach, Florida; and a new inpatient facility currently being developed in Melbourne, Florida.

We know the importance of connection when it comes to recovery which is why we created JourneyPure Coaching™ to help patients and their support teams work together to prevent relapse.

Meet Dr. Scales

Dr. Tom Scales will be consulting and directly treating eating disorders across our JourneyPure Nashville locations.

Dr. Scales received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College in Illinois and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis. He completed his residency training at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He is board-certified in internal medicine, psychiatry, and neurology, and has certification in treating those living with opioid dependence, including the provision of Suboxone.

“Eating disorders represent an area in medicine and psychology where there’s so much comorbidity,” Dr. Scales said. “Individuals who have ED don’t just have ED. Oftentimes, they have another anxiety disorder or depressive disorder. And of course, they have a lot of the medical problems that come with purging or being underweight.”

In 2004, Dr. Scales founded White Stone Recovery Center, an outpatient multidisciplinary clinic specializing in the assessment and management of people with eating disorders (ED). White Stone Recovery quickly became a guiding light in the treatment of ED in Music City, as its gender-specific programs offered a nurturing environment where people gained insight and addressed the underlying wounds that drove their harmful behaviors. JourneyPure acquired White Stone Recovery Center in 2017.
